Sanrizz Styles Wigs For Victoria & Albert Museum Exhibition Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s
Sanrizz Knightsbridge salon manager Tina Welsh was approached recently by one of her long standing clients to discuss working with the V&A to create hair artistry styling of wigs for their latest major exhibition that covers London fashion in the 1980s.
The exhibition traces the emerging theatricality in British fashion as the capital’s vibrant and eclectic club scene influenced a new generation of designers. Also celebrating iconic styles such as New Romantic and High Camp, and featuring outfits worn by Adam Ant and Leigh Bowery, the exhibition explores how the creative relationship between catwalk and club wear helped reinvent fashion, as reflected in magazines such as i-D and Blitz and venues including Heaven and Taboo.
Over the weeks Tina applied her expert knowledge to styling the wigs by researching the looks individually to capture the iconic elements of the hair and recreating the look.
Following the private view, attended by many of the modeled celebrities including Toyah Wilcox, one of Tina’s styles, Tina explained ‘Hairdressing and artistic license go hand in hand and it was an honour to be part of the process in bringing this new exhibition to life’.
Tina has been with Sanrizz for 23 years and currently manages Knightsbridge and St Pauls salons and is available for appointments. Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s is open now and runs to 16th February 2014. Visit www.vam.ac.uk for more information.
